Once upon a time, in the days of childhood sweetness, I had an unusual fascination. Sure, I loved candy - the sugary delights that danced on my taste buds - but what truly captured my imagination was the candy wrappers. Among them, one candy, Michelle's Milk Toffee, stood out like a shining star. Its wax paper wrapper held a secret - a foil strip right in the middle. I couldn't resist peeling that foil while wondering about the hands that carefully tucked it there.
My journey into the world of visuals began in a unique setting. I was the daughter of a printing inks factory’s manager, and our home was filled with intriguing samples - a spectrum of light, standard, and dark product cards. Armed with a magnifying glass, I'd lose myself in the mesmerising CMYK rosette patterns. Little did I know that this childhood curiosity would set the stage for my future.
I pursued fine art miniature painting at the National College of Arts, where my fascination with those intricate CMYK rosettes found a new canvas. Life took a creative turn when I became a Graphic Designer at Packages Pakistan. I reveled in crafting artworks, perfecting colors, and spinning designs that matched client desires.
Then, destiny whisked me away to the UK, where my design journey continued as a freelancer. I dabbled in logos, product designs, and branding, always following the rulebook of client requirements and SOPs. But one project would change everything.
I meticulously followed the client's brief, poured my heart into the design, and on the surface, all seemed well. However, it was during user testing that reality gave me a wake-up call. “USERS DIDN’T MEAN THIS”. It was a tough pill to swallow.
But from that feedback, a new world unfolded before me - the realm of user-centric design. I dived headfirst, eager to learn, grow, and empathise with the end-users. Challenges came knocking, and timelines expanded from a mere two weeks to a painstakingly long two months. But I was determined to get it right.
And so, the story goes, that today I stand as a Certified UX UI Designer from University of Birmingham. My passion for design, now more focused than ever, centres around the user, all while preserving the unique spirit and ethos of the brands and companies I work with.
